We named this disco after the smallest town in New Mexico - A Ghost Town Reborn....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madrid,_New_Mexico
The town of Madrid (pronounced with the accent on the first syllable: MAD-rid, not Ma-DRID (http://www.visitmadridnm.com/) was founded in 1869, but it wasn’t until the 1880’s when the Santa Fe Railroad arrived in the area, that coal mining began on a large scale. By this time, the short lived gold had played out, and most of the solitary miners gave way to larger companies who moved in to develop large coal mining operations.
As many as 1,500 years ago the first Native American inhabitants mined the turquoise and lead deposits in the nearby hills. When the Spaniards first arrived in 1540, they largely ignored the Indians and their turquoise, more interested in finding the more valuable minerals of silver and gold. Wonderful Product
Found this website by accident, and I am sure glad I did. I'm used to cooking with cast iron and carbon steel pans, so I bought the Madrid to check it out. Heats up and cooks like a dream and easy to season and clean up afterward. Rotating your food around is very easy. It's kind of like a wok only 100 times better. Cooked sausage, peppers, and onions last night and it sure was tasty. Buying this from a great group of owners is a plus. This will be a 3-4 night cooker for me.

Who needs a grill, anyway?
We actually waited for this pan to come before checking into the campground. I don’t regret a minute of it. Firstly, I attempted to use the Eastman Kahuna but didn’t have success because of a bad tank. I then just threw the Madrid on the open campfire. I can’t think of a better test and it was up for the task. I cooked up some discada (bacon, pork steak, beef steak, pepper, and onion) then warmed up some tortillas. We blended roasted peppers, onion, and tomato (glamping at its finest) for the salsa. A simple yet tasty meal after a long day. I even whipped up bacon and eggs in morning over a single smoldering ember. Anyway, Don’t wait get your disco today. The southwestdisk is a fraction of the cost of competitors and comes in different shapes and sizes. You don’t even need a grill (although this is a nice to have for sure). I used my disco twice on the open fire with great success. Clean up like cast iron. Just heat up some water to gentle scrape stuck on food. Then lightly coat with oil. Boom! Done! Can hardly wait to get my grill working but can’t beat a campfire for all the luxuries of home.

18” Madrid
Great smaller size discada to add to my Southwest Disk collection. I purchased primarily as a smaller travel disk while on the road working. It fits in my oven for an added bonus to season and small enough to work great using on my indoor gas cooktop as well. In all reality, this will probably be my main work horse for cooking for just my wife and myself. Nicely made as usual from Southwest Disk, I like the traditional horseshoe handles which are cleanly welded on. Disk has a nice weight to it and the accessory cover fits great as well.

Discotta
Heavy duty and I don't mean that lightly. This should last multiple lifetimes especially if you take care of it. Keep it oiled, keep it dry. If you take care of it it will take care of you I promise. Jon

18" Madrid Discada
Item arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. I have now fixed 4 breakfasts on it and think it will be my default cookware. Bought it for camping, but have enjoyed it so much at home I plan to keep using it. Started with bacon and scrambled eggs, twice. Then fixed a skillet-style breakfast with bacon, potato, onion, green bell pepper and eggs. Being able to cook each separately, but keep them warm is what has sold me. Today, I added chorizo to the 'skillet' breakfast and was blown away.
